ESPN Statement Concerning Selection of FIFA World Cup Host Countries

John Skipper, ESPN Executive Vice President, Content, and a member of the Board of Directors for the USA Bid Committee, comments about today’s FIFA announcement that the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be in Qatar.

“As a member of the Board of Directors for the USA Bid Committee, I’m very proud of the quality of our bid and I believe the U.S. offered many advantages.

“At ESPN, we believe in soccer as a growth sport.  We believe the FIFA World Cup is an ascendant media property and we are looking forward to a fantastic World Cup in Brazil 2014.  We value our relationship with our partners at FIFA, and hope to continue that relationship for many years to come.”
