Anthony Olivieri is a staff writer in ESPN’s enterprise and investigative unit, providing news coverage, writing longform features and contributing reporting across all platforms and sports. He joined ESPN in 2012.

Olivieri extensively covered Brett Favre’s alleged involvement in a Mississippi welfare scandal and was part of a team that won a Telly Award in 2024 for that coverage. He also contributed reporting to ESPN’s “Invisible Disabilities” project, which placed first in APSE’s Projects category and was a finalist for a Sports Emmy in 2025.

“The Year’s Best Sportswriting 2024” included as an honorable mention a story by Olivieri and colleague Michael Fletcher on Antonio Brown’s ownership of an arena football team.

Olivieri began his ESPN career as a researcher and reporter for ESPN The Magazine, for which he was part of a staff that won an ASME award for General Excellence, the highest honor in the magazine industry. Prior to ESPN, he worked at several outlets and covered the 2007 NBA Finals, LeBron James’ first appearance on basketball’s biggest stage.

A Connecticut native and resident, Olivieri holds a communications degree, with a concentration in journalism, from Marist University.
