Tampa Rays manager Joe Maddon is addressing the issue of discontent and prejudice within the growlingly diverse community of his home town of Hazleton, Pa. Last September, Maddon launched his Hazleton Integration Project (HIP) designed to unify Hazleton’s traditional white and rapidly growing Hispanic populations. His efforts include creating a new community center he hopes will unite the old and new Hazelton. Jeremy Schaap’s report will run across various ESPN platforms.

Then-Florida International University shortstop Garrett Wittels ended the 2010 season on a 56-game hitting streak, just two hits shy of Robin Ventura’s Division I record 58-game hit streak set in 1987. However, Wittels’ pursuit of NCAA history would be overshadowed by accusations that he and his friends raped two 17-year old girls in the Bahamas. Sparking national debate, Wittels was allowed to continue pursuit of the hit-streak record (he went 0-for-4 in the 2011 season opener) during an on-going investigation in the Bahamas. His fate and his future as a baseball player were uncertain until Bahamian authorities cleared him. Reporter Kelly Naqi reveals what led authorities to dismiss the rape charges, and how the case impacted Wittels’ baseball future. Bob Ley hosts.
