Women’s Basketball Championship Field Narrowed Down to Eight; All Top Seeds Remaining

From 64 teams, the NCAA women’s Basketball Championship Presented by Capital One has been whittled down to an Elite Eight consisting entirely of No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in each region and they will clash Monday and Tuesday night on ESPN and ESPN3 for the right to play in the Women’s Final Four in Denver on April 1 & 3. Highlights:

  • The top overall seed, Baylor, will face No. 2 seed Tennessee on Monday at 7 p.m., from Des Moines, Iowa
  • No. 1 seed Stanford battles No. 2 Duke in Monday’s second game at 9 p.m., from Fresno, Calif.
  • No. 1 seed Connecticut aims for its fifth consecutive Final Four against No. 2 seed Kentucky, looking for its first Final Four berth, Tuesday at 7 p.m., from Kingston, R.I.
  • Immediately following, No. 1 seed Notre Dame looks to make a return trip to the Final Four when facing No. 2 seed Maryland, from Raleigh, N.C.

Trey Wingo will continue to host ESPN’s studio coverage from Bristol, Conn., along with analysts Kara Lawson and Carolyn Peck.  In addition, ESPN will feature additional NCAA Championship content across its platforms, including SportsCenter, espnW, ESPN.com, ESPNEWS, WatchESPN and ESPN International.

Rachel Margolis Siegal

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
