WNBA: East Meets West in Final Game before Olympic Break

In a battle of the WNBA Western and Eastern Conferences and the final game on ESPN2 before the Olympics begin, the Los Angeles Sparks will face the Indiana Fever on Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m. ET. Pam Ward will have the call, along with analyst Carolyn Peck.

Los Angeles and Indiana both stand in second place in their respective conferences. The Sparks are led by 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Candace Parker, who is averaging a double-double of 19.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.  Tamika Catchings, former two-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist, leads Indiana with 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Prior to an Olympic exhibition tour, Parker, along with Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen of the Minnesota Lynx, will visit ESPN’s campus Friday, July 13, for “car wash” of interviews on various ESPN platforms.

The WNBA on ESPN2 will resume with the Minnesota Lynx at the Seattle Storm Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 10 p.m. Whalen and Moore of Minnesota and Sue Bird of Seattle are part of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team that will be competing in the London Summer Olympics.

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
