ESPN and ESPN2’s “Cross Court Coverage” for Wimbledon’s Gentlemen’s Quarterfinals on Wednesday, July 8, will begin at 8 a.m. ET, with the top four seeds vying for the semifinals – No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 2 Roger Federer, No. 3 Andy Murray and No. 4 Stan Wawrinka. ESPN will focus on Centre Court, while ESPN2 presents the pair of contests on No. 1 court. Wednesday’s matches:

Centre Court on ESPN at 8 a.m.

  • 3 Andy Murray vs. Vasek Pospisil
  • 1 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 9 Marin Cilic

No. 1 Court on ESPN2 at 8 a.m.

  • 2 Roger Federer vs. No. 12 Gilles Simon
  • 4 Stan Wawrinka vs. No. 21 Richard Gasquet

The eight Gentlemen remaining include:

  • 10 Wimbledon championships:  Federer (7), Djokovic (2), Murray (1).
  • 30 Major titles: Federer (17), Djokovic (8), Murray (2), Wawrinka (2), Cilic (1).

ESPN’s exclusive coverage of The Championships, Wimbledon – from first ball to the trophies – will climax with the Ladies’ Championship on ESPN on Saturday, July 11, and the Gentlemen’s Championship on Sunday, July 12.

  • Breakfast at Wimbledon starts the final four days – Thursday, July 9, to the Championships – hosted by Hannah Storm at 7 a.m. on July 9-10 leading into the semifinals, and at 8 a.m. on July 11-12, previewing the Championships – all on ESPN.
  • ESPN3 will continue to offer action on all TV courts, up to 15 during the fortnight: Centre, Courts 1-3, 5-12, and 16-18, totaling 1,500 hours. In addition, ESPN3 will again offer AELTC’s daily Live@Wimbledon.  All singles matches will be available in Spanish via ESPNDeportes+.
  • As in 2014, for the semifinals and championships an additional “ESPN3 Surround” feed will be added with three boxes – the primary TV view, plus two more, each focusing on one player.
  • ABC will present three-hour encore presentations of the Championships on the day they take place, July 11 and 12, at 3 p.m.

As I write this on 11-11-21, it's now 35 years for me at ESPN, the only real job I’ve ever had. I joined merely to help with the upcoming America’s Cup in Australia. I was told it would be for three months at all of $5.50 per hour. I like to say I simply kept showing up. I’ve worked on almost every sport, plus answered viewer calls and letters (people used to write!), given tours, written the company newsletter and once drove NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon to the local airport. My travels have been varied…I’ve been to Martinsville, Darlington, Indy and Super Bowls; the America’s Cup (all 3) in San Diego and College GameDay in the sport’s meccas such as Eugene, Auburn, Lubbock, Stillwater and more; the NBA Finals, Wimbledon (16 times and counting) and the “other Bristol,” the one with a race track in Tennessee. These days, my main areas are tennis, UFC, boxing, network-wide ratings (by month/quarter/year), and corporate communications documents, including fact sheets, chronologies, lists and nearly 35 of the Year in Review press releases. UPDATE EXACTLY ONE YEAR LATER: Today, November 11, 2022, I am retiring from ESPN -- 36 years to the day I began. As I ride off into the sunset – top down and E Street Radio blaring – I do so with so many wonderful memories, proud of my contributions and a heart full of gratitude for the opportunity.
