ESPN College GameDay Built by The Home Depot – college football’s longest running and most celebrated pregame show – will stop at the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., for just the second time in 295 road shows Saturday, Sept. 26. The Emmy Award-winning show – airing Saturday from 9 a.m.-Noon on ESPN from the UA Mall east of Old Main – is the precursor for the Saturday Night Football on ABC presented by Wells Fargo matchup between No. 9 UCLA and No. 16 Arizona at 8 p.m. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will be on the call of the Bruins-Wildcats matchup, along with reporter Heather Cox.
Host Rece Davis – in his first season at the College GameDay desk – is joined by analysts Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard and David Pollack, as well as contributors Samantha Ponder, Tom Rinaldi, George Whitfield and Gene Wojciechowski.
College Football Live will originate from the College GameDay set Friday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. on ESPN with Ponder, Howard and Pollack.
College GameDay features:
- After being buried on the depth charts, walk-ons have their moments of glory and appreciation. Rinaldi reports as “The Art of the Awarding a Scholarship” has turned into quite the spectacle.
- How LSU running back Leonard Fournette stood tall after surviving Katrina 10 years ago, and is now running to the forefront of the Heisman conversation. Wojciechowski reports.
- Six years after becoming an “Honorary Trojan,” Jake Olson, a blind long-snapper, realized a dream and earned a roster spot and suited up for his first game at USC. Shelley Smith reports.
College GameDay Fun Facts:
- This is the second time Arizona has hosted GameDay – the other came in 2009 when it lost to Oregon 44-41. Arizona also appeared on the show as the visitor at Penn State to open the 1999 season.
- This is the first Pac-12 College GameDay site which has not featured Oregon or USC as one of the two teams. UCLA hosted the first Pac-12 show in 1998 when it beat Oregon.
- This is the eighth time UCLA will be featured – with seven of the eight coming on the road. The Bruins are 2-5 with GameDay in town (1-5 on the road) and have lost their three Pac-12 road games by at least 19 points.
- Corso – who has lost his last two headgear picks – hasn’t lost three straight in the same season since 2009.
- Corso is 1-1 when picking UCLA and 3-1 when picking against UCLA.
- Corso is 2-0 when picking against Arizona, and he has never picked Arizona, so an Arizona pick would represent the 52nd different team Lee has picked in a headgear game.
- This week is headgear pick 262 and overall road show 295.
