ESPN NFL Programming Update – Week 10

Sunday NFL Countdown: The Dolphins and NFL Locker Room Culture, Mike Tomlin Conversation and Darrel Young’s Motivation

Sunday NFL Countdown host Chris Berman and analysts Cris Carter, Mike Ditka, Tom Jackson and Keyshawn Johnson will preview the NFL games Sunday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. Senior fantasy sports analyst Matthew Berry, providing fantasy football updates and insight, and NFL insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter will report the day’s headlines and news across the league during the three-hour pregame program.

Sunday NFL Countdown will also feature updates from reporters at games, including:

• Sal Paolantonio and Merril Hoge (Lions at Bears)
• Bob Holtzman (Eagles at Packers)
• Colleen Dominguez (Panthers at 49ers)
• Josina Anderson (Broncos at Chargers)

• Locker Room Culture: ESPN.com’s Greg Garber examines the NFL locker room culture. Following the report, the Countdown panel will discuss the fallout from the Miami Dolphins locker room and the suspension of Richie Incognito for allegedly bullying fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin.
• Mike Tomlin Conversation: The Steelers have a 2-6 record for the first time since 2006. Head coach Mike Tomlin sits with former Steeler Hoge to discuss his team.
• Inside Slant – the Pressures of Coaching in the NFL: On the heels of two NFL head coaches – Denver’s John Fox and Houston’s Gary Kubiak – suffering from health conditions attributable to the pressures of coaching, Hall of Famer and Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Ditka leads a discussion on the demands of being a head coach in the NFL.
• Darrel Young’s Motivation: Last week Redskins fullback Darrel Young scored his first three touchdowns of the season, including the game-winner in overtime against the Chargers. On Countdown, Young discusses how he is motivated by his brother David Young, who often watches his games from a tent in Afghanistan while serving in the U.S. military.

Monday Night Football: Mike Glennon and the Buccaneers Host Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins on Veterans Day

In the NFL’s week 10 finale, Mike Glennon and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football on November 11, at 8:25 p.m. Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden – the former Super Bowl-winning head coach of the Buccaneers who still calls Tampa home — will call the game from Raymond James Stadium with sideline reporter Lisa Salters.

The Dolphins are making their league-leading 80^th appearance all-time on MNF; the franchise is also tied (with Pittsburgh) for third all-time with 40 Monday night wins (best: 43, Dallas and San Francisco).

With the MNF game to be played on Veterans Day, ESPN’s promotional spot leading up to the game is themed to this day of remembrance and voiced by legendary actor Gene Hackman.

Prior to the matchup, the MNF commentator team will join Stuart Scott, analysts Trent Dilfer, Ray Lewis and Steve Young and contributor Rick Reilly on ESPN’s pre-game show, Monday Night Countdown (6:30 p.m., ESPN). Host Chris Berman, analysts Carter, Ditka, Jackson and Johnson and insiders Mortensen and Schefter will join the Tampa-based crew from ESPN’s studios in Bristol, Conn. Highlights:

• Gruden’s Extra: Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson sits for an interview with Super Bowl winning coach Jon Gruden in the Monday Night Football bus.  As part of ESPN’s Veteran’s Day coverage, Jackson will discuss how his parents met in the U.S. Army boot camp and his recent launch of the “Jackson in Action 83 Foundation,” a charity to provide support to military families.
• Rick Reilly Feature: Dolphins rookie wide receiver Ryan Spadola was introduced to U.S. presidents by his father, Don, who served in the Secret Service for two decades. Don also introduced Ryan to pro football, taking him to his first NFL game. When Spadola was a high school sophomore, his father committed suicide. He never found out why, but his father’s suicide and the love of a bereaved mom and family pushed him to focus more on football. This season, Spadola – an undrafted rookie out of Lehigh – was able to call his mother and let him know he made an NFL roster. The Dolphins picked up the young Spadola after the New York Jets released him in week 5.

NFL Matchup – Broncos Screen Game; Kaepernick and Newton Read Option; Reggie Bush’s Elusiveness; and More

NFL Matchup host Paolantonio and analysts Jaworski and Hoge will preview the weekend’s key matchups by taking viewers inside the film room with X’s and O’s analysis on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 8:30 a.m. on ESPN2 (re-air on ESPN, Sunday at 6:30 a.m.).  Highlights:

• Between The Lines – Drew Brees and the Maturation of Kenny Stills: Jaworski goes to the telestrator to explain how rookie receiver Kenny Stills is the Saints deep threat and breaks down an ‘Out and Up’ route that Stills scored on in week 8 versus Buffalo.
• X and O Files – Peyton Manning to Knowshon Moreno Screen Pass: Using a screen play from Peyton Manning to running back Knowshon Moreno, Hoge shows how the Broncos offense is an excellent screen team and an answer for a man-coverage defense.
• The Film Room – 49ers and Panthers Read Option Plays: Jaworski on “Jaws Playbook” and Hoge on “Hoge Breakdown” delve deeper into the similarities of how the San Francisco 49ers and the Carolina Panthers use the read option offense – using quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and Cam Newton (Panthers) as major parts of their respective run games.
• Factor Back – Reggie Bush 17 Yards versus the Bears: Ahead of the Lions versus the Bears on Sunday, Hoge explains what makes Reggie Bush unique and hard to tackle in one-on-one situations by using plays from their week 4 matchup when the running back carried the ball 18 times for 139 yards.
• Jaws Covers the Field – The Eagles Speed-Tempo Offense: Jaworski explains how the Philadelphia Eagles speed-tempo offense causes difficulties for an opposing defense in run and pass situations.
• Game Within the Game – Robert Quinn long stick: Jaworski gives in-depth analysis on the Rams defense and their use of blitz-long stunt concept with linebacker James Laurinaitis and defensive end Robert Quinn.  The Colts will see this blitz/stunt concept from the Rams and they must be prepared.

ESPN Radio’s out-of-market Sunday afternoon NFL game broadcasts continue with the St. Louis Rams at Indianapolis Colts on November 10 at 1 p.m. Bill Rosinski will provide play-by-play with Jeff Saturday as analyst and Ian Fitzsimmons reporting from the sidelines.
