Sunday NFL Countdown Week 5 – The Return of Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady; Frank Caliendo’s NFL Debate; Gone Fishin’ with Julio Jones; and more
Chris Berman will host with analysts Trent Dilfer, Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss and Charles Woodson, who will preview week 5 games in the NFL on Sunday NFL Countdown October 9 at 11 a.m. ET. Wendi Nix will host select segments, NFL Insider Adam Schefter will report the latest league news and senior fantasy sports analyst Matthew Berry will share insights on the day’s matchups.
The two-hour program will provide in-depth coverage – live reports, taped features, preview analysis and discussions – of the return of quarterback Tom Brady from a four-game suspension. The four-time Super Bowl champion is expected to make his 2016 debut Sunday at the Cleveland Browns (1 p.m.).
NFL Insiders: Sunday Edition (10 a.m., ESPN) with host Trey Wingo, Mark Dominik (filling in for Chris Mortensen), Louis Riddick and Schefter will precede Countdown.

- Julio Jones Gone Fishin’: Countdown reporter Jim Trotter travelled to Atlanta to go fishing and talk football with Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, the NFL’s leading receiver after his 300-yard performance last Sunday.
- Frank Caliendo’s NFL Debate: Countdown comedian and impressionist Frank Caliendo puts an NFL twist on the presidential debate as “Donald Trump” and “Hillary Clinton” – played by actress Leeann Dearing – square off on First Take with moderator Molly Qerim.
- Soundtracks – Terrell Suggs and Josh Norman: In this week’s Soundtracks, Countdown highlights two of the game’s best trash talkers – Redskins cornerback Josh Norman and Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs – in advance of the Redskins-Ravens game on Sunday.
- Sunday’s “Countdown Cam”: The recurring weekly segment featuring a behind-the-scene look at one player preparing for his Sunday game will feature Cleveland Browns tight end Gary Barnidge before he faces the visiting Patriots.
Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers vs. Cam Newton and the Panthers on Monday Night Football
Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers host NFC South opponent Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 10 on Monday Night Football. Sean McDonough will call the game at 8:15 p.m. ET with analyst and Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden. Lisa Salters will report from the sidelines. In addition to being televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, Buccaneers-Panthers will be streamed live on WatchESPN for fans with video subscriptions from affiliated providers.
Prior to the game, Suzy Kolber will host the more than two-hour Monday Night Countdown pregame show (6 p.m., ESPN) from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte with Trent Dilfer, Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss, Charles Woodson and Steve Young. Kolber will be joined in from ESPN’s Bristol Studios by Chris Berman and his NFL Legend guest – Super Bowl-winning coach Dick Vermeil, and insider Adam Schefter.
Monday Night Countdown feature:
- Requiem for Mother Emanuel: Countdown feature reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck tells the story of how Panthers head coach Ron Rivera took his team captains to see a series of paintings inspired by the Charleston church shootings during training camp. With linebacker Thomas Davis, tight end Greg Olsen and four other players, Rivera used the visit as an opportunity for open dialogue in the locker room about race relations – a topic that became necessary when protests in Charlotte turned violent after the fatal police shooting of Keith Scott.
ESPN Radio Continues 2016 NFL Sunday Schedule with Jets-Steelers
ESPN Radio will continue its 2016 Sunday NFL schedule at noon ET on Sunday, Oct. 9, as the New York Jets visit the Pittsburgh Steelers. Adam Amin and analyst Bill Polian will call the game. Additional games in the schedule will be announced at a later date.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m., ESPN’s award winning newsmagazine E:60 will feature a “Brofile” – an in-depth, and unvarnished conversation with brothers Michael and Martellus Bennett. Highlight:

ESPN The Magazine: An Oral History of Bill Belichick; Colin Kaepernick Is a Real American
- The cover story of the current issue of ESPN The Magazine – the Great Debates issue – is An Oral History of Bill Belichick by senior writer David Fleming. In the piece, Fleming, in collaboration with ESPN’s NFL Nation reporters, offers an oral history culled from extensive interviews with fellow coaches, players and associates – for a complete portrait of the enigmatic New England Patriots head coach.

Steve Young’s Memoir to be Released Next Week
QB: My Life Behind the Spiral, the autobiography of ESPN NFL analyst and San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and co-authored by Jeff Benedict, Young offers a candid and compelling sports memoir, giving readers an unprecedented look at what it takes to become a Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame quarterback. The book chronicles Young’s early family life growing up in Connecticut, his Mormon faith and college years at Brigham Young University, and his professional career in both the USFL and the National Football League.
